Singapore

Singpaore. Some of you might be thinking, "That's a pretty cool place", or "Hmmm, oh yes, the country without 4 seasons..haha", or "It’s a boring place to live but a lovely place to visit” and other's, "Where is that?"

Actually it isn't really a surprise to me that there are still many people around the world who have not heard about Singapore or perhaps they did, but do not know where exactly the country is situated. I was born in Singapore, studied in Australia for about 6 years during my childhood days, returned back to serve the army for 2 ½ years and is now studying in the Melbourne University, here in Singapore. One reason is because I don’t have to pay International Student rates. I do not intend to carry on living in Singapore as I would want to pursue a better lifestyle overseas. Don’t get me wrong though, the education level here in Singapore is very high and our National University of Singapore has been rated one of the Top 10 universities in the world. Not bad for a small nation yea?

Well, just to give you some rough insight about the location of Singapore. This country is situated in the South East of Asia between Malaysia and Indonesia. It’s an extremely small country, whereby Singapore is literally just a dot on the World Atlas.

Singapore is one of the fastest growing economy around the world, since Independence and also because of our free port. We just keep growing and growing. Singapore, in my opinion is becoming more of a tourist attraction place. We will be constructing casinos and new resorts, and our latest attraction is the hosting of the Formula 1 competition. Singapore will be the first country in the world to hold the F1 race at NIGHT. So I think that will be pretty interesting.

The main reason why I wanted to write a little about Singapore, is not because I’d wanted to promote the country, but rather, I’d wanted people to get a rough understanding of where we are and what kind of country Singapore is. I’ve heard some people from overseas having the perception that Singapore is a forested area, or even a third world nation. Take a look at some of these pictures and the lifestyle in Singapore to clarify some misconceptions.

Having said all these, I’m not a patriot of Singapore neither am I a hater of Singapore. I am one of those who believe that Singapore is a beautiful place to come for a holiday, but not a suitable place to reside in. The focus is too much on earning money that there is no time for family. I believe there should be a balance.

All in all, I’m still proud to be born here.
